Well what can I say? I live with a major football fan which means that as of last Friday, the TV is under hostile takeover until July 10. And being Swedish, we’re all kind of hoping and praying (although we’re not even the slightest religious) on King Zlatan to lead the boys as far as possible. 🙏🏻“Our” football journey officially starts on Monday against Ireland in our opening game. Oh Ireland, that magical, mystical country where I met the love of my life, the place I called home for 4 years during my first posting abroad and where half of my heart stayed when I left in 2008..❤️But even though I consider myself an honorary Irish, my heart belongs to Sweden on Monday, apologies to my Irish family. ☘
Apart from EURO 2016 starting, this weekend also marked the last weekend in Kyiv for my daughter and future husband as we leave for vacation in Sweden next Saturday morning. It’s so weird thinking about it. The last month or so has just flown by. I will be back in Kyiv for a month to wrap up everything but they will only return for a couple of days before we head to Beijing middle of August. So Ms S marked the occasion by having half a sleepover on Friday at her friend’s house (she came home at midnight after having a major mom & dad longing…) and hosted another one at our house yesterday (which went better). It’s been a busy few days for sure and I have an exhausted 6-year old in the bath tub at the moment.
This was also the weekend we said proper “goodbye” to our Danish colleague Carina and we did so in style by cruising on Dnipro for a couple of hours, having lunch under sunshine. Great company and amazing views. Happy to say I can tick that one off my “to do list” before leaving. 😊
On a different note, the Kiev Pride parade took place this morning. Last year’s event had its difficulties, the year before that it was cancelled due to security concerns but today’s parade seem to have taken place without complications. Happy news indeed and a major step forward for equality for all! 💜💙💚💛❤️
On that note, happy Sunday folks! And even though I would be telling a lie if I said that they Ukraine would have a chance tonigh against Germany, I’m still saying Слава Україні! Anything’s possible.
Love from Kyiv ❤️
